The Strongest Sage With The Weakest Crest

Episodes: 12

Summary:

His strength limited by the magical crest with which he was born, Mathias, the world’s most powerful sage, decides reincarnation is necessary to become the strongest of all. Upon his rebirth as a young boy, Mathias is thrilled to discover he’s been born with the optimal crest for magical combat on his first try! Unfortunately, the world he’s been born into has abysmally poor standards when it comes to magic, and everyone thinks he’s still marked for failure! Now it’s up to Mathias to prove everyone wrong…world’s strongest sage-style!

Review:

The Strongest Sage With The Weakest Crest is an anime that follows Mathias, he was once the world’s most powerful sage, but being unable to reach the level he wanted, he was reborn. While he was gone, the human world’s magic was set back dramatically. Every magic user is born with one of four crests, Mathias being born with the fourth crest, which is the strongest crest. However, it is now seen as the weakest. Of course once Mathias magic is tested at a magic school he blows everyone away with this power. In the process humanity learns that demons have been secretly plotting humanity’s downfall and Mathias is the only one who knows how to fight them.

There are four main characters in this anime and surprisingly only one of the girls is the romantic interest. Mathias is our reborn sage and is what you expect, he’s very overpowered and nothing is really a threat to him throughout the anime. He’s protective of his friends and plans to protect the kingdom from the demons. Then there’s Lurie, who is the romantic interest and the two have a crush on each other instantly when they meet. Lurie is the support of the group, making powerful arrows for her best friend and other member of the group, Alma. Alma is the magic archer and lastly there’s Iris, who I can’t say much about without spoilers.

The art for this series is fine. The characters are designed well and the magic is drawn well enough, though there’s nothing exciting about it. It’s a magic circle then a blast of some kind. It’s kind of simple, but I don’t think it heavily took away from the anime. Overall there’s nothing bad with the art, it’s average and that’s fine.

Overall Thoughts:

The Strongest Sage With The Weakest Crest is a fun enough anime to watch. I didn’t find myself bored or annoyed while I was watching it. However, I will point out that it is very much like a bunch of other series. Wise Man’s Grandson, The Misfit Of Demon King Academy and The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn As A Typical Nobody to name a few. There’s nothing about this anime that makes it stand out from others in the same genre so that does make it a bit of an average one overall.

I would recommend this anime for anyone who is fans of the series I listed above or fans of reincarnation. There is the magical school aspect, but that doesn’t last long with Mathias focus shifting to fighting demons over the school. There’s a hint of romance, though it is very in the background. It’s a very simple anime. It’s not bad but it won’t stand out very well amongst other animes. So check it out if this review sounded interesting to you, if not just skip it. You won’t be missing much.
