Review:

The World’s Fastest Level Up takes place in a world that has basically become a video game. Dungeons pop up around the world and everyone gains levels and some of those people also gain special skills. The people with these skills tend to become adventurers that take on the dungeons to become stronger and make a living. One of these adventurers is Amane Rin, who has a special skill called Dungeon Teleporting. At first he thinks that it’s a useless skill until he realizes he can use it to break the rule that requires a week break between dungeons. Now Rin can level up much faster than anyone else.

We don’t get more than a glimpse of the characters other than Rin. Rin lives with his teenage sister, their parents having died on a trip. While they have the money the parents left them, Rin works as an adventurer to help make ends meet and support her. He’s responsible and wants to become better so he can make more money for his family. We also see him save a healer that was abandoned by her teammates to act as a decoy for their escape. The healer, Kasai, goes to the same school as Rin’s sister and will probably return in the next volume, she already seems to have a small crush on him for saving her. We also see Rin’s old team mates, a group of adventurers with unique skills. Who spread rumors about how useless he was to get him to quit. I’m sure they’ll be part of the problem in some part of this series.

The art for the series is pretty good. I like the character designs as well as the fantasy outfits for the adventurer’s, they look like equipment right out of a video game. The fight scenes are well drawn, I haven’t seen any real magic (since Rin uses a sword) so I’m not sure how that will look yet. The backgrounds are detailed when they need to be and simple when they’re not, a good balance.

Overall Thoughts:

The World’s Fastest Level Up is an enjoyable manga to read so far. The idea of the world being a video game or dungeons isn’t new at all, hundreds of mangas are like that, but that doesn’t make this one less likable. Rin is a strong character that tries to help his sister and it is fun to see him getting stronger. I don’t know who the villain will be for this series or the main plot besides Rin leveling up, so I’ll have to see how it develops in future volumes.

I recommend this manga for fans of video game-like series and ones with dungeon crawling themes. It also has the whole adventure trying to go up the ranks. The manga is simple so far, but like I said I liked reading the first one. If you’re looking for a dungeon crawling video game like manga, check this one out.
