This was to be the mission in his new life. Review:

The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated In Another World As An Aristocrat is an isekai series where an older assassin is killed by his organization when he tries to retire. The next thing he knows, he’s standing in front of a goddess that says she’ll reincarnate him with all of his memories on one condition; to kill the hero of the world. The assassin agrees and is reborn in this new world, where he makes it his goal to become stronger and get allies, or as he calls them pawns, to help him reach that goal. The series basically follows the assassin, renamed Lugh, as he tries to get strong enough to kill the hero.

The characters of the anime are interesting enough, Lugh, our assassin, is a bit overpowered like most isekai main characters. Though there are still plenty stronger in this new world, the hero included. It makes him interesting while not just being another copy of the other protagonist. Then there is Dia, the girl that teaches Lugh how to use his magic and the two of them grow close over their love of creating new spells. The other two girls are Tarte and Mara, Lugh’s ‘pawns’ that are clearly in love with him. Even though he does call them pawns in his head, he does seem to care about them and helps them improve their lives. There is a strong harem vibe between the characters, but it is a minor plot point.

The art of this series is the best part and it is what made me watch it in the first place. The character designs are adorable and the magic spells are very detailed. I like how there’s a bunch of different magic in this series, including making guns, instead of just fireballs. The backgrounds are very detailed and bring you into the fantasy world.

Overall Thoughts:

The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated In Another World As An Aristocrat started off as an interesting enough anime, a main character with what seems like an impossible goal he’s trying to achieve. The problem with the anime is the pacing, which is really bad with a short 12 episode series. The beginning of the anime is very slow, with Lugh meeting the female characters and slowly growing. Then suddenly near the end of the series, the pacing goes at breakneck speed. The characters reference things we didn’t see, Lugh and Tarte being on a deserted island for one, and I felt like I had missed episodes. I even checked, thinking that I had somehow skipped something only to find that I had not. I would have rather the anime left on a different cliffhanger to fix this problem. I know that light novel series are very detailed and I don’t even mind things being skipped or glossed over, but you have to give the viewer some kind of flashback or review so that the viewer knows what the heck just happened. It really made the last few episodes a drag to get through. It took me completely out of the series.

I would recommend this anime for fans of magical isekai with pretty straight forward plots. Like I said earlier there is a faint harem feeling, though it is more in the background. Other than that, I don’t know if I would recommend this one. I enjoyed it when it started, but that pacing at the end was just really terrible and made the whole anime leave a bad taste in my mouth. If you have a long list of animes to watch, I would just skip this one. You won’t remember it for long.
