This review is based on volumes 1 (chapter 1-6)

Summary:

Tsukina is a single, thirty-something office worker whose favorite thing is curling up with a good book. When a god tells her that she must go to another world to become its magical savior, Tsukina isn’t interested. She has zero desire to go on some grand hero’s journey. So when she arrives in this strange new land, she decides to use her magical powers to create a cozy little book café instead. Her first customer is a handsome soldier who loves reading almost as much as she does. But when a fellow “savior” starts causing trouble, Tsukina might have to play the hero after all!

Review:

The Savior’s Book Cafe Story In Another World is another isekai series based on a light novel. Tsukina is forced to go to another world by God, but she has no desire to be a hero. Instead she wants a nice quiet cafe outside of the city where she can enjoy reading. God agrees, giving her the magic power that all saviors are offered, as well as a necklace that lets her summon anything she needs. Thus Tsukina starts her life and meets her first, and so far only, customer. A handsome soldier named Il (IL to be clear). Over the next three months the two grow close, bordering on romantic but they are not there yet. At the end of the first manga, God returns to warn Tsukina about the other savior and the problems she is causing in the kingdom. This will probably be the plot of the series, but we only get a glimpse of it in volume one.

I really enjoyed our two main characters and the couple in this series. Tsukina has a good head on her shoulders, she wants a normal life and to be able to read to her heart’s content. She loves having Il as a customer and goes out of her way to make him comfortable. Like having fresh fruit for his horse to eat and adding healing magic to his meals. She gets flustered when Il shows signs of affection, thinking to herself “that she can’t deal with hot guys”. Which I found was funny and made her more likable as a character. Meanwhile, Il is the captain of the guard and is exhausted from dealing with the other savior. When he finds Tsukina’s cafe, it’s like a sanctuary for him, a place he can go, relax and read rare books that he had trouble finding on his own. He cares for Tsukina, even giving her a thank you present for taking care of him. I find their interactions very sweet and I look forward to seeing their romance grow.

The art for this series is pretty simple, but I don’t mean that in a bad way. The characters probably wouldn’t stand out compared to other shojo series, though somehow it works for this manga. The plot is rather light hearted for the most part with the characters growing romance and the art style matches that tone. The art won’t turn you off from reading the series, but it probably won’t pull you in either.

Overall Thoughts:

The Savior’s Book Cafe Story In Another World is a light hearted, but enjoyable romance manga. The interactions between Tsukina and Il are very sweet, their romance is so innocent and cute that I find myself rooting for the characters to get together. I’m assuming we’ll get more of a plot point in later volumes with the other savior causing trouble and Tsukina having to step up to save the world that is now her home.

I would recommend this manga to fans of romance series first and foremost. That seems to be a major part of this manga and if you don’t enjoy romance you probably won’t like reading this. Also if you are a fan of isekai or magical world mangas you might enjoy this as well. This manga still has a main character that is overpowered, though this is more subtle than other series since Tsukina is trying to hide her abilities to have a normal life. If you want a light hearted romance isekai then I would check out this manga. You will definitely enjoy these characters.
